Mark Atkinson’s
Testimonial year
Supporting two great local charities
Mark’s testimonial year is also proudly supporting two local charities, the 4Ed Foundation and Hope for Tomorrow – Driving Cancer Care Forward.
The 4Ed Foundation
At the age of 34, Ed Slater announced his diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and his immediate retirement from rugby. The 4Ed campaign has been created to raise awareness and funds in support of Ed and his familyโs battle with the disease.
Hope For Tomorrow
One in two people will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime. Treatment often means long and frequent trips to hospital.
Hope for Tomorrow helps the NHS to bring cancer treatment closer to patients with the mobile cancer care units, making their lives that much easier at a difficult time.
Mark’s Story
In 2008, I seized the chance to join my childhood team, Sale Sharks. Despite idolising its victorious stars, my rugby journey there didn’t fully align. I debuted at 18, even represented England under 20s, but transitioning to Wasps brought challenges. Battling injury and city allure, I persevered, shining on the field, for the first team at Wasps, and even had the highlight of staring as fly-half against Harlequins in Abu Dhabi. Coaching shifts led me to Esher, offering highs and lows. Then, a pivotal meeting with Mike Rayer led me to Bedford, reaching the final. I chose Saracens for momentum, leading to Gloucester and coaching changes. England recognition and setbacks followed, including a major knee injury. Now, healing and inspired, I embrace my 10th year under George Skivington, excited for our club’s future.
